Biodiesel
Biodiesel is a domestic, renewable fuel for diesel engines derived from natural oils like soybean oil, and which meets the specifications of ASTM D 6751. Soy biodiesel is a clean burning alternative fuel, produced from domestic, renewable resources. Biodiesel contains no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel to create a biodiesel blend. It can be used in compression-ignition (diesel) engines with little or no modifications. Biodiesel is simple to use, biodegradable, nontoxic, and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics.

According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), it appears that roughly 3% of the annual on road diesel market in Kentucky is made up of biodiesel. (Clean Fuels Alliance America)
Educational Partnership with Kentucky Community and Technical College System
Kentucky’s soybean farmer-leaders invest in the future success of biodiesel and other soy-based renewable fuels by partnering with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS). Using an online course developed by Clean Fuels Alliance America (formerly the National Biodiesel Board), diesel tech students learn facts about America’s first Advanced Biofuel.
Students are equipped with information about biodiesel, and learn how to separate fact from fiction about this renewable, sustainable fuel. Since its inception in 2013, more than 900 students and instructors have completed this valuable training course.
Following class completion, a Kentucky Soybean Board staff member and farmer-leader visit the class for presentation of certificates and a review/question-and-answer session. Instructors throughout KCTCS have expressed their appreciation to the Board for this course, as it is the only biofuels information that most diesel tech students receive.
